PULASKI COUNTY, Ark. ( KTAL/KMSS )—The Arkansas Department of Transportation is reminding political candidates and their canvassers that placing campaign signs on the highway right-of-ways is illegal.

“There are several Arkansas statutes addressing encroachment and the placing of signs or other objects on highway right of way,” stated ArDOT Director Lorie Tudor.

State laws permit official directional, informational, and regulatory highway signs on state-owned highway property – ArDOT Maintenance Officer employees will remove all other signs.

ArDOT personnel will remove “yard” signs in the right-of-way, and owners of large “billboard” signs will be contacted about retrieving them at the nearest ArDOT Area Maintenance Office.

“The Arkansas Department of Transportation encourages everyone to follow the right of way laws to keep the roadsides clear and ensure our highways are as safe as possible,” Director Tudor said.
