A woman was killed and several others were treated for injuries as a result of a traffic collision in Long Beach early Friday morning.

According to the Long Beach Police Department , the crash was reported at 12:15 a.m. in the area of Pacific Coast Highway and Atlantic Avenue.

Investigations revealed that a 24-year-old woman behind the wheel of a 2017 Mazda 6 was driving westbound on PCH when she collided with a 2007 Toyota Scion driven by a 63-year-old man going northbound on Atlantic.

It was not immediately clear which driver had the right of way, police said.

The Scion had four passengers inside the vehicle in addition to the driver.

One of the passengers was trapped inside the vehicle. That passenger, identified as 53-year-old Maria Concepcion Martinez of Long Beach, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other passengers and the driver of the Scion were each transported to a local hospital to be treated for unspecified injuries.

The Mazda driver remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. She was transported to a local hospital and was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Police said that both speeding and driving under the influence are being investigated as possible factors in the collision. Authorities did not indicate that any arrests were made.
