A beloved local doctor was shot and killed Friday night in Woodland Hills and police are still searching for the suspect.

The victim was identified as Hamid Mirshojae, 61, a doctor who worked at the Warner Plaza Medical Center located at Topanga Canyon Boulevard and Oxnard Street.

He was walking to his car when an unknown suspect approached him and shot him multiple times at around 5:34 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Witnesses heard gunshots and saw a body on the ground in the parking lot. Mirshojae was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Authorities said the suspect fled in an unknown direction, and no description was immediately available.

Patients of Mirshojae described him as a caring person who loved helping others out.

“Everyone in the Woodland Hills area, even in L.A., they know him because he was a really good doctor,” said Maryem Alaei, the victim’s family friend. “Always laughing, always joking, always helping people.”

Alaei said she and others are stunned and devastated over the beloved doctor’s death.

“Every day he’s at work, around 4 to 5 a.m. he goes to this ER center and he’s just helping people and he comes back at night and last night, somebody was waiting for him here,” Alaei said.

Alaei said the victim’s wife is currently visiting family overseas in Turkey with their 6-month-old baby. She is now flying back to the U.S. as soon as possible.

“I don’t know why bad things happen to people who are good in this world,” said Pamia Mazahrei, a former patient of the victim. “They need to change the system, like how they handle laws with guns. Enough is enough.”

A growing memorial was seen outside the clinic on Saturday night where friends, family and patients dropped off flowers and candles to honor Mirshojae.

The motive behind the deadly shooting remains unknown.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call LAPD’s Valley Bureau homicide detectives at 818-374-9550.
