A suspected thief driving a U-Haul truck was arrested shortly after more than a thousand dollars worth of merchandise was taken from a Target in Chino.

“While patrolling the Target parking lot, an officer was alerted by Loss Prevention regarding a grand theft that had just occurred,” the Chino Police Department posted on Instagram Tuesday.

The suspect was seen on surveillance video walking out of the store on Aug. 20 with a shopping cart full of merchandise.

Police were told the man fled in a U-Haul truck which officers located on the 60 Freeway and initiated a traffic stop.

The U-Haul stopped off the freeway where officers recovered roughly $1,500 worth of stolen merchandise, the Police Department stated.

Police also found the suspect, who is from the city of Gardena, was wanted for other thefts in the area resulting in more than $33,000 in losses.

The suspect was not identified but police said he was facing charges for grand theft, four outstanding warrants for theft and narcotics, and possession of fentanyl.

“We remain committed to proactively combating retail theft and ensuring that those who commit these crimes are held accountable,” the Police Department stated.
