Shake Shack announced on Tuesday that nine underperforming locations in California , Ohio and Texas will close in September.

Here is a list of the neighborhoods where restaurants are scheduled to close, according to reports :

    • Oakland
    • Bunker Hill in downtown Los Angeles
    • Downtown Culver City
    • Koreatown
    • Silverlake
    • Westfield Topanga, in Woodland Hills
    • Polaris, Ohio
    • Houston Galleria in Texas
    • Montrose, Texas

The company didn’t confirm to KTLA which markets would be impacted.

“These closings are expected to optimize the company’s footprint in these states and maximize profitable growth moving forward and are not anticipated to impact the company’s plans to open additional Shacks in these states. The company currently does not anticipate closing any additional Shacks based on this evaluation for the foreseeable future,” Shake Shack said in an SEC filing.

Employees working at the impacted locations will be offered positions at nearby Shake Shack locations. Those who don’t accept a transfer will receive 60 days of pay.

“This Shack closure plan was communicated to impacted employees on Aug 27, 2024, and is expected to be completed by Sept. 25, 2024, subject to finalizing third-party agreements and other contingencies,” according to the SEC filing.

“We’re committed to sustainable growth and providing the best possible experience for our guests. After careful consideration, we’ve made the tough decision to close a small group of Shacks due to various factors, including underperformance. We remain focused on supporting our team members through this transition and look forward to continuing our growth, opening many more locations across the country,” Shake Shack CEO Rob Lynch said in an emailed statement to KTLA.

Shake Shack still has 37 locations across California.
