More than 110 firefighters were dispatched to battle a large fire at a construction site in Historic South-Central Los Angeles early Sunday morning.

According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, crews were dispatched to 217 Vernon Avenue near Wall Street just after 4 a.m.

Upon arriving, they located a three-story wood framed building engulfed in flames.  The structure, which was in its construction phase, was surrounded by scaffolding, LAFD said.

“Intense flames spread to two nearby single-family homes, which firefighters entered to extinguish, and several detached buildings,” fire officials stated.  “Although there were initial concerns of structural or scaffolding collapse, everything remained stable during the firefight.”

At least 10 people have been displaced due to the fire, LAFD said, and the Red Cross is responding to assist them. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
