Southern California is entering one of the hottest stretches of the summer, but health officials are warning residents not to use some of Los Angeles County’s most popular beaches to cool off.

The warnings were issued because tests showed bacterial levels have exceeded health standards at several beaches, including Mothers Beach in Marina del Rey and the areas around Santa Monica Pier.

The closures come as most of Southern California is under an excessive heat warning for temperatures exceeding 100 degrees.
