Police revealed Monday that what appeared to be the most recent case of violence on public transit actually occurred on a Los Angeles street before the victim was spotted on a Metro train.

The attack itself occurred at about 8:25 a.m. in the 5700 block of Jefferson Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

From there, the victim, a man, headed to the train station at Jefferson and La Cienega boulevards, where he was spotted at about 8:40 a.m.

Officers were alerted to the attack by callers at the scene and at the station, police said.

The victim was located at the La Brea/Exposition Station and transported to a local hospital in unknown condition.

No information about the attacker is available.

Police initially said there were two separate stabbings, one of which was believed to have occurred on a train.

Metro trains, buses and stations have been the sites of multiple violent attacks in recent months, some of which have been fatal.

In a statement, Metro thanked an “elevator contractor for quickly notifying officials of a person at the La Brea E Line Station who reported being stabbed off-Metro property.”

“The victim sought help at the station knowing there would be someone to connect with and he was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries,” the statement said. “The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating this incident. Anyone from the public that has any information about this incident, is encouraged to call the Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (800-222-8477).”
