Two men were struck by gunfire while leaving a popular restaurant near the Walk of Fame in Hollywood overnight.

The shooting was reported just before midnight outside the Status Hollywood restaurant and lounge on the 1600 block of Cahuenga Boulevard.

Police said the two victims had just finished dinner and walked out of the lounge when a gunman standing next to a car opened fire from across the street.

Both victims were transported to a local hospital after being struck by the gunfire, including one man who was hit in the chest.

The shots sent dozens of people scrambling and running for cover.

A security guard who witnessed the incident ran to help one of the victims who said he was feeling weak and starting to lose consciousness.

“I grabbed a shirt that was lying there and I applied pressure … Got that wound, got that hole covered,” Eric Hinkley said.

Police initially said the unidentified victims, both in their 20s, were stable when they were taken to the hospital but their conditions were less clear later in the morning.

It was also unclear if the victims were together or just happened to be leaving the restaurant at the same time.

The suspect, described only as a man in a black hoodie or long sleeve shirt and possibly wearing yellow pants, ran northbound on Cahuenga after the shooting.

There was no word on a possible motive for the shooting.
