Wildfire grows to 3,830 acres in San Bernardino County; prompts evacuation warnings

Evacuation warnings remain in place for some Highland neighborhoods Saturday morning as a wildfire burning in San Bernardino County has grown to more than 3,800 acres.
The “ Line Fire ” broke out around 6:30 p.m. Thursday near Baseline Street and Alpin Street.
The wildfire remains zero percent contained and has scorched 3,330 acres the agency stated in an update Friday night, more than six times in size from the 505 acres reported in the morning.
By 5:30 a.m. Saturday, the blaze had grown to 3,832 acres, according to CAL FIRE.
The evacuation warnings include neighborhoods east of Church Street and north of Highland Avenue, the neighborhood east of Weaver and north of Greenspot to the Iron Bridge.
Area residents were seen returning back to their homes early Saturday morning to grab belongings and pets while the hillside burned in the distance.
Fire officials told KTLA 5’s Carlos Herrera that there was not a significant change in fire behavior overnight, which comes after the blaze grew rapidly Friday.

Aurantia Park, off Greenspot Road, is being used for a staging area and incident command post, and is closed to the public.
The flames were initially burning toward the San Bernardino National Forest but shifted overnight toward Highland, prompting CAL FIRE to post an evacuation warning on X, formerly Twitter, at 12:41 a.m. Friday.
The fire is spreading as a heat wave that has scorched Southern California all week is likely to hit its peak Friday . Afternoon temperatures in the Inland Empire reached nearly 115 degrees.
CAL FIRE reported the vegetation fire originally started in the area of Baseline Street and Aplin Street.
At this time there are no structures are threatened or damaged, and fire crews remain actively engaged in working to contain the flames.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
