Authorities confirm that homes have been lost in the 23,140-acre Airport Fire, which started in Orange County’s Trabuco Canyon on Monday and has since spread into Riverside County near Lake Elsinore.

Cal Fire said the wildfire had crossed Ortega Highway and was “actively impinging upon structures in the area.” The containment was at 5% on Wednesday night.

Officials said the fire was ignited accidentally by a spark from heavy equipment used by public workers. Sky5 footage on Wednesday showed the rubble of charred homes in the communities of El Cariso Village and Deckert Canyon.

Gov. Newsom’s office announced Wednesday morning that a federal grant has been secured to help with the costs of battling the fire.

Idiot county workers start a fire in a fire hazard area with temperatures over 100 degrees. What would they do if they had a brain!
