The Campbell Soup Company plans to drop soup from its name after over 155 years.

During its Investor Day event in New York City, the company discussed its new era, which includes a rebrand as The Campbell’s Company.

“This subtle yet important change retains the company’s iconic name recognition, reputation, and equity built over 155 years while better reflecting the full breadth of the company’s portfolio,” Mark Clouse, Campbell’s president and chief executive officer, said in a statement .

The name change is subject to shareholder approval at its annual shareholders meeting in November.

While known for its variety of soups, the company’s portfolio includes Prego, Pace, Noosa, V8, Goldfish, Pepperidge Farm, and Cape Cod Chips. In August 2023, the company also bought Sovos Brands, the maker of Rao’ Homemade, for $2.7 billion.

This wouldn’t be the first time the Campbell’s Soup Company has changed its name. According to Campbell’s, the company was known as Anderson & Campbell in 1869. It wasn’t until 1922 that “soup” was added to the company’s “official middle name.”
