Many residents may wonder how long California’s fire season lasts as three major wildfires continue to burn across Southern California , forcing many to evacuate their homes and leaving others to deal with poor air quality.

Southern California’s fire season typically starts in late spring, around May or June, and continues until October or November, thanks partly to the hot and dry Santa Ana winds.

In Northern California, peak fire season typically begins in June or July and runs until October or November.

Still, according to Cal Matters , fires are possible throughout the year due to the ongoing climate crisis and extreme drought periods.

Southern California residents are dealing with three ongoing wildfires that have impacted multiple counties.

As of Thursday afternoon, the Bridge Fire, which has impacted Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties, had grown to over 51,000 acres and was 0% contained.

The Line Fire in San Bernardino County has grown to over 31,000 acres and is 18% contained. Lastly, the Airport Fire in Orange and Riverside counties has grown to 23,400 acres and is 5% contained.

A complete list of active wildfires, including the total number of personnel assigned and current containment levels, can be found here.
