A Moorpark man has been charged with multiple felonies after allegedly attempting to blow up his house with his wife inside and then firing a weapon at law enforcement.

The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office said deputies responded to the call on Tuesday, when they learned the victim was inside her home with her estranged husband, 61-year-old William Cornelis Boer.

Ventura County Sheriff’s Department deputies were told that Boer placed propane tanks inside the home and turned on the gas to the stove. His wife fled the house when he allegedly attempted to ignite a lighter.

Following her exit, Boer barricaded himself inside the home, starting a standoff with law enforcement.

During this, Boer allegedly fired a weapon at deputies stationed outside. None were injured.

Boer surrendered around 8 p.m. and officers took him into custody without further incident, according to the D.A.’s Office. Investigators recovered a long rifle and a pistol from the home.

The District Attorney’s Office announced Friday it had charged Boer with two felony counts of attempted murder, one felony count of possessing explosives and one felony count of attempting to set fire to a structure.

The Moorpark man is in custody without bail, awaiting his arraignment scheduled for Oct. 11.
