A Mexican restaurant in Santa Clarita has been closed by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health as the agency investigates multiple reports of food poisoning.

Madre Oaxacan Restaurant and Mezcaleria at 27007 McBean Parkway closed Wednesday after health officials on Tuesday received “several reports of people experiencing gastrointestinal symptoms after consuming food at Madre,” Public Health told the Santa Clarita Valley Signal .

Madre’s owner Ivan Vasquez told the Signal that four cases of salmonella were tied to his restaurant in Santa Clarita, though other locations in West Hollywood, Torrance and Culver City weren’t affected.

Madre was inspected by Public Health in March and got an “A” grade, though the Signal notes a couple of violations.

“The report stated that pico de gallo, queso fresco, tamales and chile relleno were observed being stored in an inoperable cooler and were measured as being above the approved temperature of 41 degrees,” the outlet reported. “Shellfish was also observed to be maintained in an unsafe manner.”

Vazquez said it wasn’t a matter of food contamination, but they are sanitizing the restaurant and will reopen once Public Health gives the OK.

If you ate at Madre recently, you’re asked to fill out a Public Health survey at tinyurl.com/2p9zvahs . If you have questions, call 213-240-7941.
