Officers in the South Bay took a report of a vehicle break-in last week that the victim claims resulted in $1 million being taken from their car.

It happened on Sept. 13, near the intersection of 15th Street and Laurel Avenue, according to the Manhattan Beach Police Department .

The victim told officers that they had parked their vehicle along the curb in front of a nearby school and went inside the gym with their child.

After an undisclosed amount of time, the vehicle owner and their child returned to find the rear passenger window had been shattered.

The victim told police that a cardboard box was stolen from inside the vehicle — a box containing $1 million in cash.

Police have not said if the victim’s story checks out, but in the Police Department’s weekly crime summary , officials said a GPS device was found “affixed to the vehicle.”

The status of the investigation is unclear at this time.
