For many generations, growing up Latino in America wasn’t always something many were willing to put on display.

The next generation is changing that.

The social media platform Mitú was created to share the Latino point of view online.

Today, they have a team of young creators who are proud of who they are and want to share their culture with the world.

For more than a decade, the creators have been making a business of being unapologetic, by creating both scripted and unscripted content for the online community targeting a very influential demographic.

“Everyone that is Latino. Embrace it, you’re part of it, own it,” explained Mitú influencer Alejandro Perez Jr.

Mitú plays a crucial role in helping young Latinos embrace their identities, which was unheard of at one time.

“Any commentary, any thought, right off the bat its something your abuelita would say, your tio would say,” Perez Jr. said.

He says the company’s strategy is to mix Spanish and English language content that not only targets Latino youth but also keeps a universal appeal.

He’s helping newcomers like Daniela Salazar live their dream of taking many things that are important to her and merging them into other passions. She hopes it’s something to do for many more years, while serving as an inspiration for Latinos who are struggling to flaunt their Latino background.

“It is not something you should be ashamed of, it is something you should flex,” she exclaimed.

KTLA continues our celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month through Oct. 15. Be sure to join us for a special broadcast on Oct. 2 at 7:30 p.m. We’ll be highlighting inspiring stories of Latinos here in Southern California showcasing their contributions to music, food, art and more.
