California man arrested, says sorry for pulling ghost gun on wrong person

A 36-year-old man in San Bernardino County who allegedly apologized after pulling a firearm on a person he believed was someone else was arrested and found to be in possession of a 9mm ghost gun, a switchblade knife, a stun gun, pepper spray and methamphetamine, authorities announced Monday.

The case of mistaken identity occurred on Sept. 28, according to a news release from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

Just before 6:30 a.m., deputies responded to reports of a suspect “brandishing a weapon” in the 18000 block of Valley Boulevard in Bloomington.

At the scene, authorities contacted the victim who said the suspect, later identified as Fontana resident Edgar Adrian Arriagamendiola, pulled the un-serialized semi-automatic handgun on the man and then followed him when he attempted to leave the area in his vehicle.

The 36-year-old reportedly trailed the victim in his red four-door 2013 Dodge 200, drove aggressively and very nearly crashed into the victim multiple times while pointing the handgun at him and demanding that he pull over.

“Arriagamendiola pulled his vehicle in front of the victim and forced the victim to stop,” authorities said. “Arriagamendiola approached the victim and apologized, saying he thought the victim was someone else.”

The 36-year-old then drove away.

After the initial investigation and Arriagamendiola’s identification, a warrant was issued for his arrest.

A day later, on Sept. 29, at around 5 p.m., the 36-year-old was spotted driving in his vehicle in Fontana. Authorities conducted a felony traffic stop and arrested Arriagamendiola without incident.

He was booked for:

• Possession of methamphetamine while armed with a gun
• Felon possessing a firearm
• Felon in possession of an undetectable firearm (ghost gun)
• Carrying a concealed firearm
• Carrying a loaded firearm in public
• Felon in possession of a stun gun
• Felon in possession of pepper spray
• Possession of a switchblade
