1 dead, 6 hospitalized after suspected overdose incident at Men’s Central Jail

One man died, and six others were hospitalized after a reported overdose incident at the Men’s Central Jail in downtown Los Angeles Tuesday morning, authorities said.

The incident was reported at 8:40 a.m., and the Los Angeles Fire Department found seven people, ages 18 to 35, at the scene, according to LAFD spokesperson Margaret Stewart.

A man, 35, was in critical condition upon the responders’ arrival and was declared dead at the scene.

The six others were taken to local hospitals in mild distress.

A hazardous materials team was decontaminating the area where an unknown white powder was found.
