A new poll shows that Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón’s bid for reelection is in trouble.

With less than a month to go, challenger Nathan Hochman garnered 51% of likely voters’ support in a Los Angeles Times/UC Berkeley poll, the Times reports .

Gascón, meanwhile, only garnered 21% in the poll, meaning he’s down by 30 percentage points.

While 28% of respondents said they were undecided, meaning they’re theoretically up for grabs, they alone wouldn’t be enough to overcome the deficit, which has grown from the 15% Hochman garnered in a similar poll in August .

When reached by the Times, Gascón said he still thinks he’ll prevail next month, noting that he also had to overcome a polling deficit in 2020.

“I feel very bullish about the final outcome,” he said. “When people ask me about the polls, I say it’s the poll on election day that really counts.”

The Times disagreed with that assessment—among other differences, the Times noted that “at no point did he face polling this dire.

Mark DiCamillo, director of the poll, was far more blunt with the Times.

“It’s not even close … This now appears to be Hochman’s race to lose. He’s way ahead,” he said.

I don't think Hochman will be much better. But, it is at least hard to get worse.
