    Hit-and-run suspect wanted for killing woman in South Los Angeles

    Police are searching for a driver who struck and killed a woman in South Los Angeles.

    The deadly crash occurred on Oct. 7 on Imperial Highway just west of Parmelee Avenue at around 8:50 p.m.

    The victim was identified as Denise Barkus, 62, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

    Barkus was crossing the street outside of a crosswalk when she was hit by a vehicle. The driver did not pull over to provide aid and instead, continued speeding away.

    The woman was pronounced at the scene by paramedics. Detectives are searching for the suspect whose vehicle is described as two-toned silver or white sedan.

    A reward of up to $50,000 is available to anyone who provides information leading to the driver’s apprehension and conviction.

    “Motorists are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves,” said LAPD.
