Detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department are asking for the public’s help to locate the person responsible for hitting and killing a man with their vehicle and then fleeing the scene.

Traffic investigators are searching for the driver of a dark-colored Honda Accord that hit a 45-year-old man at the intersection of Venice Boulevard and Oak Street in the Pico-Union neighborhood on July 19.

Police and paramedics responded to the area around 11:35 p.m. and pronounced the man dead at the scene. LAPD did not identify the victim in its most recent news release.

The suspect vehicle is described as a 2002 to 2007 gray Accord with “oxidized paint, black hub caps and blue dim lights.”

Police say the driver did not render aid or identify themselves, which is required by California law.

“We would like to remind everybody when involved in a traffic crash to stop and check on the other parties, make sure they are not injured, call 9-1-1 if they need medical attention, and to exchange information,” LAPD officials stated. “Don’t convert a traffic crash into a crime.”

Los Angeles offers up to $50,000 for information that leads to the identification, arrest and conviction or resolution in deadly hit-and-run crashes.

Anyone with information is urged to contact LAPD Traffic Detective David Chung by email or by calling 213-833-3713. Anonymous tips can be submitted online or by calling the LAPD tip line at 1-877-527-3247.
