Substitute teacher gets 15 years to life for molesting boys in L.A. County

A former substitute teacher was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison for molesting two boys, though officials said they found no victims from the schools at which the man worked.

Andrew Sandoval was sentenced on Wednesday after he pleaded no contest to two felony counts of oral copulation with a child 10 years or younger, the office of Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón said in a news release.

After being convicted of the abuse, which began in November 2015, Sandoval will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, and he will have to stay away from the victims, who were between the ages of 4 and 9, for a decade.

“While the legal process has reached a conclusion, it is important to recognize that no sentence can truly remedy the deep and lasting trauma of what these victims have experienced,” Gascón said. “To the courageous young survivors, we offer our heartfelt compassion. Your bravery is a powerful step toward healing, and we stand with you in your journey.”

Investigators “conducted outreach to dozens of schools and childcare centers where Sandoval worked,” but no additional victims came forward, and the victims in this case were not students anywhere Sandoval worked, prosecutors said.
