Rain a possibility in Southern California next week

It’s been months since Southern California saw any noteworthy precipitation, but that could end as October approaches its midway point next week.

According to the National Weather Service , temperatures throughout the region will remain normal or slightly above normal for this time of year until Monday, when a decent drop is expected.

Friday’s high temperatures were forecast to reach the mid-to-high 80s and perhaps in the low 90s. Forecast highs included 90 degrees in Santa Clarita, 91 in Van Nuys, 88 in Burbank, 84 in downtown Los Angeles, 81 in Long Beach, 83 in Anaheim, 92 in Riverside and 90 in Ontario.

Expect drops of a few degrees on Saturday in each area before a more dramatic drop on Sunday and into Monday. According to early forecasts, most areas, including the San Fernando and San Gabriel valleys, the coasts, and inland Orange and Riverside counties, were predicted to see temperatures in the mid-to-low 70s from Monday to Friday.

Though it’s early, there could even be some rain late in the week.

“We do have a chance of some light sprinkles happening,” said KTLA meteorologist Mark Kriski.

According to early forecasts, it wouldn’t be much, but “light amounts of measurable rain” could come on Thursday, a welcome sight to those ready for some autumn weather in the Southland. Keep in mind that forecasts can change rapidly throughout the week.

Southern Californians are used to warm weather in October, but the first two weeks of the month have been filled with hotter-than-usual temperatures, according to the NWS. The early month saw record-breaking temperatures and scorching weekends, making many ready to experience a welcome drop to traditional fall weather.
