One person died and two others were injured in a Riverside County crash on Friday night, and authorities believe drug or alcohol use could be to blame.

The two-vehicle crash was reported on Van Buren Boulevard south of Jurupa Road in Jurupa Valley at about 10:26 p.m., according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office.

Upon arrival, authorities pronounced the sole occupant of one of the vehicles dead at the scene. Their identity has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.

The driver and sole passenger of the second vehicle were each transported to a local hospital in stable condition. Their injuries are not life threatening, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, though the Sheriff’s Office said that is appears drug or alcohol use was a factor. It wasn’t clear which driver was suspected of using drugs or alcohol.

No more details were immediately made available. Van Buren Boulevard between Jurupa Road and 56th Street was temporarily closed, but has since reopened.
