A suspect who led deputies with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department on a high-speed chase in northbound lanes of the I-15 Freeway finally surrendered after authorities deployed a spike strip and performed three separate PIT maneuvers.
The suspect was reportedly considered armed and dangerous after a robbery in Hesperia at 8:45 p.m., authorities told KTLA.
Around 10 p.m., deputies deployed a spike strip and performed the first PIT maneuver, successfully stopping the driver for several minutes before the suspect took off again with deputies right behind.
Two more PIT maneuvers were performed before the driver stopped a final time.
Authorities then surrounded the vehicle and the suspect was seen crawling out of the driver’s side door and lying on the ground before deputies approached.
Sky5 reporter Gil Leyvas reported that shots may have been fired by deputies and aerial footage showed an ambulance arriving to the location to transport the suspect to the hospital. The driver, though, was seen on his feet walking to the gurney for paramedics.
All lanes were blocked on the northbound I-15 Freeway at Highway 138 for the investigation as of 11:30 p.m., according to CHP.
