An uninvited guest slithered into the Los Angeles Dodgers’ dugout during Game 2 of the National League Championship Series on Monday, literally.

Dodgers pitcher Brent Honeywell was headed back to the dugout after the top of the 5th inning when he spotted a snake on the steps.

The thin, brownish-colored serpent, believed to be a gopher snake, caused a brief stir in the Dodger dugout and also stopped catcher Will Smith in his tracks as he left the field.

No one was in any danger as rattlesnakes are the only venomous snakes found in the wild in California, and it was clear this was not one.

The snake was eventually wrapped in a towel and removed by a member of the Dodger Stadium grounds crew.

Jeremy Bailey with Animal Capture Wildlife Control says gopher snakes are ubiquitous in the hills around Chavez Ravine, and he is frequently called to remove them from homes.

“With the heat we’ve had lately, all snakes are still very active!” Bailey told KTLA 5 News.

While odd, the encounter didn’t bring any good luck to the Boys in Blue, who were already trailing in the game and went on to lose to the New York Mets 7 to 3.

The best-of-seven series is now tied at one game apiece as the two teams head to New York for Game 3 on Wednesday.
