The 19-year-old son of renowned photojournalist Paul Lowe has been charged with murder in connection with his death in Mount Baldy, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday.

Emir Abadzic Lowe is accused of using a knife to stab his father, whose legal name was Christian Lowe, to death on October 12. The DA’s Office initially identified the victim as Christopher but later updated the information.

Deputies responded to an area around Mt. Baldy Road near Stoddard Canyon Falls just before 3:30 p.m. Saturday where they found a man suffering from severe “trauma to his upper torso,” LASD officials said in a news release.

The victim had suffered a stab wound to his neck and was declared dead at the scene .

“Our thoughts are with Mr. Christian Lowe’s loved ones during this tragic time,” District Attorney George Gascón said in a statement. “We will pursue justice for the victim and ensure that the offender is held accountable for his actions.”

Lowe was a professor at the University of the Arts London and a well-known award-winning war photographer who covered the terrors of the Bosnian war as a photojournalist.

Emir Lowe was charged with one count of murder in his father’s death. “It is further alleged that during the commission of the crime, Lowe used a knife, and that the crime involved great violence and great bodily harm,” the DA’s Office stated.

Emir Lowe was scheduled to be arraigned in the West Covina Courthouse on Wednesday. If convicted as charged, he faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life plus one year in prison.

No possible motive for the killing has been released.
