Upland Police, with the help of their K9 named Petey, arrested a man on Thursday night for a DUI and possession of narcotics for sale.

The department announced Friday in an Instagram post that the reckless driver first grabbed the attention of an officer near Central Avenue and Arrow Route.

Police said the driver reeked of alcohol and was put through several sobriety tests that led officers to determine he was driving under the influence.

“If drawing attention to himself wasn’t bad enough, K9 Petey took a walk around the vehicle and sure enough, his attention was drawn to the car,” the department wrote in the Instagram post.

Petey helped the officers find multiple bags of drugs in the suspect’s car.

Officers then booked the driver for DUI and possession of narcotics for sale, and had his car towed.

“Fun fact for those who don’t know, our patrol team has a working dog hitting the streets 7 days a week,” the Instagram caption read. “These good boys 🐾 are trained on apprehension, narcotics, and article searching.”
