Crews with the Los Angeles Fire Department were battling a greater alarm structure fire in North Hollywood Sunday.

Firefighters responded to 11115 West Vanowen just before 4 p.m. and requested two additional task forces for the large exterior fire showing heavy smoke, according to an LAFD news release .

In an update just a half hour later, LAFD said hazmat crews were en route due to the fire’s position adjacent to railroad tracks and a commercial building with placards indicating potential hazardous materials.

In footage posted to the Citizen App, heavy smoke could be seen coming from the area, which is near the Hollywood Burbank Airport.

Fire officials called a “knockdown” on the blaze at 5 p.m., saying that it took 50 firefighters an estimated 56 minutes to extinguish the flames.

“Crews prevented the fire from extending into the exposed commercial building,” LAFD said . “Firefighters will be engaged in an extended overhaul operation.”

There have been no reports of any injuries, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

It is unclear if smoke from the fire impacted any outgoing or incoming flights to the nearby airport.
