A two-vehicle crash in Rialto on Sunday evening resulted in the death of a pedestrian, a child being injured and a woman being arrested.

According to Rialto Police Department Sgt. Smith, officers responded to reports of a crash involving a pedestrian at 6:26 p.m. Sunday.

Upon arriving at the scene – the corner of Etiwanda and Riverside avenues – police found a green Dodge Caravan had jumped the corner and struck a pedestrian who was walking his bike.

Man, 19, fatally stabbed ex-girlfriend’s mother after argument near elevator, police say

“Preliminary information indicates the female driver of the Dodge Caravan was driving southbound on Riverside Avenue and was turning left to go east on Etiwanda and failed to yield, [leading] the black Audi to collide with the Caravan,” Sgt. Smith confirmed to KTLA. “[The collision] caused the Caravan to go onto the northeast corner of the sidewalk, striking the pedestrian.”

Video from the scene shows the aftermath of the crash, which left the front end of the Audi severely damaged. The bicycle that the pedestrian was in possession of did not appear to have sustained much damage.

The pedestrian, only identified as a 50-year-old man, was transported to a hospital where he later died, police stated.

Inside the Audi at the time of the crash was a 19-year-old driver and his 2-year-old son; the latter was transported to a hospital with minor injuries. The father was not injured.

The 32-year-old female driver of the Caravan was also transported to a hospital. Police are waiting for her to be released so she can be arrested for driving under the influence.

Authorities cleared the intersection by 12:30 a.m. Monday.
