EL PASO, Texas ( KTSM ) — A group of local citizens filed a petition to have a member from the Canutillo Independent School District (ISD) board removed on Wednesday, May 22, according to court records obtained by KTSM.

The petition was filed Wednesday afternoon asking for the immediate removal of Armando Rodriguez from the CISD Board of Trustees due to his previous arrest record of driving while intoxicated in El Paso County, according to court records.

The petition states Rodriguez has been arrested at least three times for driving while intoxicated since his election into the board in 2005.

The petition also states that Rodriguez allegedly had his attorney try to expunge and clear his record so that the court records would be hard to find, according to court records.

The petition also gave a timeline of Rodriguez’s arrest, stating that his first arrest was on Sept. 26, 2013, his second arrest was around January 2015, and his third arrest was on Dec. 12, 2021.

The petition also states that after Rodrguez’s third arrest, he was required to have DWI supervision and a camera ignition interlock device installed in any vehicle that he currently drives, according to court records.

Rodriguez shared following statement with us on Thursday, May 23:

“The petition is a frivolous and meritless attempt by a sitting board member to attack my pro-public education stances. Ms. Breanne Barnes has asked her colleagues to file this ridiculous attempt at circumventing the people’s vote so that she can continue to push school vouchers, faith-based education and other anti-public education initiatives.

The group that filed the petition failed in their attempt to defeat the bond election and they are now resorting to theatrics to intimidate the district and reverse the will of the voters.  It’s my hope that an impartial judge will respect the electors that selected me to serve.

I have been upfront about my legal issues and have worked to address them. I have not been convicted of any crime that merits my removal and I intend to continue to serve the children and taxpayers of Canutillo.”

Did they ever arrest the current chief Kluge for his $80k of overtime fraud in only 4 months during Covid? It said in the audit they would but still pending there with Canutillo ISD? There was also a sexual harassment report done on him there with the school district from another female officer who claimed Kluge promised her a higher position in exchange for sexual pleasures. Just curious about the status of that? I know they have not terminated him because his mother and or mother in law is the chief of Human Resources there at Canutillo ISD too so perhaps maybe that’s why he still has his job there? He was terminated with the Sheriffs department in El Paso according to a video Mr. Wiles made and in the audit it also shows that where you can request these records through open records with TEA as well as the school district website.
