LAS CRUCES, New Mexico (KTSM) — In its 2024 regular season opener, the New Mexico State women’s soccer team played its way to a 2-2 draw against No. 23 USC at the NM State Soccer Complex on Thursday night.

After going down 2-0, NMSU scored two second half goals to earn the draw. The game-tying goal came from junior midfielder Meredith Scott, as she scored off a rebound with 39.3 seconds left on the clock.

The goal to cut NMSU’s deficit down to one came from Kennedy Herrera, a Las Cruces native and Centennial High School grad, in the 77th minute of the game.

It was a deflating draw for the nationally ranked team, but was a huge draw for New Mexico State as it began its 2024 season with a tie against one of the best teams in the country.

Up next, New Mexico State will take on its opposition in the Rio Grande Rivalry: New Mexico.

The Aggies and Lobos will go head-to-head on Sunday in Las Cruces. Kickoff at the NM State Soccer Complex is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. MT.
