EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — El Paso native Omar Quintanilla will be inducted into the Texas Athletics Hall of Honor in September.

Texas Athletics revealed its 2024 Hall of Honor Class on Tuesday and Quintanilla is part of the 12-member induction class that includes Texas football legends Colt McCoy and Marquise Goodwin and men’s basketball legend Alex Okafor.

A two-time All-American and three-time All-Big 12 selection, Omar Quintanilla is one of the best middle infielders to ever play at The University of Texas. He helped lead Texas to two College World Series appearances in three years, winning the title in 2002 and advancing to the semifinals in 2003.

After Texas, the Socorro High School grad was selected in the first round of the 2023 MLB draft by the Oakland Athletics. Quintanilla went onto put together a nine-year Major League Baseball (MLB) career playing with the A’s, Colorado Rockies, Texas Rangers, Baltimore Orioles, and New York Mets.

Quintanilla was most recently inducted into the El Paso Baseball Hall of Fame this past weekend.

He’ll be inducted into the Texas Athletics Hall of Honor on Friday, Sept. 20.
