    UTEP volleyball splits exhibition match against GCU

    EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – UTEP volleyball split its exhibition match against GCU on Saturday hosted on the Miners home court at Memorial Gym.

    The Miners would make the comeback in set one against the Lopes bringing in within one, 24-25. GCU in a match point situation finishes it off with a hit that drops just beyond the net to center court to secure the set win.

    In set two UTEP is able to flip the script and get an early lead over GCU, with big offensive plays by Kaya Weaver at middle and Landry Braziel on the outside for kills. Miners take set two, 25 to 21.

    The third match was dedicated to the incoming freshman on both sides, allowing the newbies to get some reps in at the collegiate level. Franklins Jordan Imperial received a big round of applause when the Sun City native went back to the service line.

    GCU also had an El Paso tie themselves with junior Anaelena Ramirez in the house, an alumni of Eastlake High School.

    Lopes take set three in extra points, 29-27, while Miners bounce back yet again the take the fourth and final set, 25-20. Both programs will split the exhibition match with two sets a piece.

    UTEP will begin its official 2024 schedule at the Utah Classic next Friday, August 30th against the Utes.
