EL PASO, Texas ( KTSM ) — A man is in custody after he barricaded himself in a Lower Valley home and pointed a weapon at an officer, prompting an officer to fire back at him on Sunday night, Sept. 8, El Paso Police said.

The incident happened at around 8 p.m. along the 300 block of Ramona Avenue in the Lower Valley. Neither the suspect nor officers were injured in the incident, police said.

Police were initially called out for what was described as a “verbal family violence” incident but was upgraded when police learned the suspect had a weapon, they said.

Police said that when they arrived, a 27-year-old man barricaded himself in the home. Officers began to command him to leave the house and at some point, the suspect pointed his weapon at an officer, police said.

An officer fired back, police said. Shortly after that, the man surrendered and came out of the house, police said.

The man is in custody and neither officers nor the suspect were hurt in in the incident, police said.

The incident is being investigated by the El Paso Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit and its Internal Affairs Department as well as the Texas Rangers.
