EL PASO, Texas ( KTSM ) — A house that caught fire Tuesday morning, Sept. 24, in South-Central El Paso has been ruled as being human caused, the El Paso Fire Department confirmed to KTSM.

The Fire Department spokesman said the early morning fire resulted from a reckless act of a person or persons.

The Fire Department says at around 3 a.m. Tuesday, crews responded to a condition 2 fire at a house on Myrtle Street and Octavia Street. A condition 2 fire means smoke and flames are visible.

Upon arrival, the house was fully involved and crews were able to put a stop to the fire quickly and prevent it from spreading to adjacent structures.

The Fire Department says after a thorough investigation by the El Paso Fire Marshal’s Office, it was determined that the fire was caused by a reckless act of a person or persons and a criminal investigation has been opened.

The house was vacant at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

The Fire Department is asking anyone with any information on the incident to call (915) 212-5600.
