EL PASO, Texas ( KTSM ) — The El Paso Community College (EPCC) Language Institute celebrated its annual Language Institute Day.
The multicultural festival, where students learn about different cultures through music and entertainment, happened on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at EPCC’s Valle Verde Campus Americana Village.
According to EPCC, 20 percent of their student body are international students.
“Each year, students join our program with a singular ambition: to master the English language in pursuit of their goals and aspirations. For many, enrolling in the EPCC Language Institute represents their first experience in higher education, while for others, it signifies a significant transition from their home countries. We at the EPCC Language Institute are committed to facilitating their adjustment to this new academic environment. Language Institute Day is a vibrant celebration that reinforces the message that students are not alone on this journey; we are here to support and warmly welcome them to EPCC,” said Lucy Flores from the EPCC Language Institute.
According to EPCC, the event was created to provide students an opportunity for “comradery and to provide a platform where students can feel welcomed.”
The event highlighted a flag-raising ceremony and student talent exposition, with students dressing in traditional attire from their native country, according to EPCC.
Veronica Ibarra Guajardo, an EPCC student from Mexico, sang a Mexican song and Mohammed Alkhaldi, Abdulaziz Alkhaldi, Farhan Alkhaldi and Rashed Alkhaldi, did a traditional dance from their home country of Saudi Arabia.
