EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – UTEP football is looking forward to a much needed bye week, after taking on a grueling road heavy schedule to open up the season.

The Miners have spent the last three of the past four weeks on the road, suffering a loss in each competition dropping to a 0-4 record.

With the addition of a new head coach, young talent and overall rebranding the program during the offseason, the travel heavy schedule has been taxing on the team. Needless to say, with adversity comes to the opportunity to grow.

Head coach Scotty Walden says himself along with his team have learned countless lessons during this period and plan to apply what they have learned during their bye week.

“Starting out those three of those first four on the road, I don’t care who you’re playing, that’s hard,” said Walden. “We have a new team, some of these guys traveling for the first time and getting time in on the road – that is always a challenge. I love that now we have more of a balanced schedule of home and away. It definitely built our mental toughness, but we’re also not just taking this week off. We’ve going to learn and grow and eventually it will break through.”

UTEP will take back to the field on Thursday, October 3rd to open up Conference USA play at home against Sam Houston. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. from the Sun Bowl.
