EL PASO, Texas ( KTSM ) — Wednesday, Oct. 2 will mark two weeks since four students were hit by a vehicle alongside Paisano Drive near Jefferson High School in South-Central El Paso.

The mother of one of those students, who is still in critical condition, told KTSM she’s hoping drivers will be more aware that students walk in that area.

Sixteen-year-old Evelyn, who was one of those students hit that day, is still in in ICU.

Her mother told KTSM in Spanish on Tuesday: “It’s been years that we’ve been seeing that on Paisano’s side that there are no signs that signal that it’s a school zone.”

“The cars pass through there, going over the (speed) limit and they don’t notice that there’s a school,” said Jessica Langet, Evelyn’s mother. “And I think we should be more aware that there are students crossing the streets in that place.”

As of Oct. 1, details about the accident are still limited. The family’s attorney told KTSM they are looking for more witnesses to come forward.

“If you witnessed this event, come forward. Notify me, the attorney, or the channel itself,” attorney Ray Gutierrez said. “We need to get more people to come forward to give us exactly what happened so that we can help the case.”

The road to recovery is still a long one for Evelyn.

She has multiple hip fractures and another surgery set for November, her family said. Her family says she will also be taken to Houston for additional care.

Some of those costs are not covered by insurance.

You can find a link to their GoFundMe here to help alleviate some of those costs.

And if you or someone you know has information about what led up to the crash, or witnessed what happened, you can contact attorney Ray Gutierrez at (915) 252-4199.
