Week 7 #9OT Game of the Week: Irvin vs. Mountain View

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The 2024 Week 7 #9OT Game of the Week is a District 1-4A Division I matchup between the Irvin Rockets and Mountain View Lobos at Lobo Stadium on Friday night.

Mountain View, led by head coach DJ Check, heads into Friday’s game with a 3-3 overall record and 2-2 district record. After a season opening win over Santa Teresa, Mountain View dropped its next three games (El Paso High, Austin, Ysleta). The Lobos have bounced back from its three-game losing streak with wins over Fabens (41-0, Sept. 27) and Clint (27-21, Oct. 4).

Senior running back and free safety Omar Nevarez will be the player to watch out for on Mountain View’s team on Friday. Nevarez leads the team in total touchdowns with eight of them and is averaging 152.5 rushing yards per game.

Irvin, led by head coach Jonathan Elliott, heads into Friday’s game with a 3-2 overall record and 2-1 district record. Irvin has won three of its last four games under the direction of first-year head coach Jonathan Elliott. The three wins is already the most wins Irvin has had in a season since 2020. The Rockets are currently on a two-game winning streak after it beat Bowie (17-13, Sept. 26) and San Elizario (62-26, Oct. 4).

Junior wide receiver Michael Salazar will be the player to watch out for on Irvin. Salazar is averaging 77.0 receiving yards per game and leads the team in receiving touchdowns with six.

Irvin and Mountain View will go head-to-head on Friday night at Mountain View High School’s Lobo Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. MT. Later that night, you can catch highlights of the game on 9 Overtime. Show airs at 10:15 p.m. MT on KTSM.
