EL PASO, Texas ( KTSM ) — The City of El Paso’s Captial Improvement Department is inviting the community to a planned roadway improvements meeting for the Montwood Drive Extension project.

The community meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at the Esperanza Acosta Moreno Library located at 12480 Pebble Hills Blvd.

According to the City, the project will extend the street from west of Tierra Este Road to Rich Been Boulevard.

The extension project will include the following amenities and services to the area:

    • Construction of a four-lane, divided asphalt roadway with curb and gutter, sidewalks and parkways.
    • Median landscape and illumination.
    • Bike lanes.
    • Ponding areas and the installation of water and sanitary sewer lines.

The project is to “improve connectivity in East El Paso’s transportation network by reducing congestion on nearby streets and getting motorists, pedestrians and cyclists to destinations quickly,” the City said.

According to the City, an estimated budget for the project will be $16.7 million and aligns with the City’s Complete Street Policy for “creating safe facilities for all users and all modes of transportation and enhance El Paso’s regional comprehensive transportation system and infrastructure.”

The street improvements were voter-approved in the 2022 Community Progress Bond, according to the City.
