EL PASO, Texas ( KTSM ) – The defense and prosecution in the case of Phoebe Copas, the woman accused of shooting Uber driver Daniel Piedra Garcia last year, returned to court Wednesday, Oct. 10 as Copas’ attorney pushed for more evidence to be handed over by the state.

Copas’ defense team filed a motion arguing they haven’t seen all the evidence in the case.

The defense team is specifically requesting items found, including razor blades and a crowbar, in Piedra Garcia’s car that they believe show why Copas feared for her life.

“We’re requesting the production of the razor blades and crowbar found in the vehicle. We’re also asking for his medical records, which show he tested positive for substances that weren’t prescribed to him. We’re asking for a background check on him and text messages between law enforcement,” Matthew Jamez Kozik, Copas’ defense attorney said.

The next hearing in the case is scheduled for Nov. 7.

As we previously reported, on June 16, 2023, Copas allegedly shot Piedra Garcia in the head, saying she thought he was taking her to Mexico after seeing signs for “Juarez” while on U.S. 54.
