EL PASO, Texas ( KTSM ) — Ysleta Independent School District is kicking off its Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program for the school year.

Beginning Tuesday, Oct. 15, students at eight YISD schools will receive fresh fruits and vegetables during the school day on Tuesdays and Thursdays through May 29.

The program is designed to promote healthier eating habits and improve overall student well-being, the district said.

    This year’s participating campuses are:

    • Capistrano Elementary School

    • North Loop International School

    • Parkland Elementary School

    • Pasodale Elementary School

    • REL Washington International School

    • Riverside Elementary School

    • Thomas Manor Elementary School

    • Ysleta Elementary School

These campuses were awarded more than $200,000 by the Texas Department of Agriculture to purchase fruits and vegetables for the program, the district said.

The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program is under the U.S. Department of Agriculture. It is administered by the Food and Nutrition Service, which provides free fresh fruits and vegetables to students in participating elementary schools.

All they serve for a frozen and food with perservatives! A close friend ofMine works for a schools cafeteria. This will be a nice change for the students.
