EL PASO, Texas ( KTSM ) — Part of U.S. 70 in Las Cruces was closed on Friday evening, Oct. 17 because of a downed power line, the New Mexico Department of Transportation said.

NMDOT said both east and westbound U.S. 70 were closed from milepost 154 to milepost 155. However, at about 7 p.m. both directions of U.S. 70 were reopened to traffic, the Las Cruces Police Department announced via Facebook.

Las Cruces Police said at about 4:30 p.m., a truck struck a utility pole causing a power line to go down near Jornada Road on Las Cruces’ East Mesa.

LCPD said one lane of Bataan Memorial West is closed until utility crews complete their repairs.

Motorists are urged to reduce speed, obey posted signs and be cautious of personnel and equipment working in the area, NMDOT said.
