SUNRIVER, Ore. (KTVZ) – A report of a shot fired in a Sunriver home Thursday night brought out law enforcement who determined the woman may be experiencing a mental health crisis, police said. The area was secured, neighbors were notified and she was taken into custody without incident Friday morning.

Officers were dispatched to a residence on Acer Lane on a report of a firearm being discharged inside a residence, Police Chief Stephen Lopez said.

Witnesses said the home’s lone occupant was potentially experiencing a mental health crisis, and they heard a gunshot inside the residence, he said.

Sunriver Police and Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies arrived to secure the area, notify adjacent residences and make contact with the women, who refused to speak with law enforcement.

After  verifying the woman was alone in the home and “did not intend to harm others, law enforcement attempted to de-escalate the situation by backing away from the residence and observing it from a distance,” the police chief said in a news release.

Sunriver Police monitored the home until Friday morning, when they reestablished contact with the woman, who agreed to come out and was taken into custody without further incident, Lopez said.

"The Sunriver Police Department would like to thank the Sunriver Community for their patience as this incident was peacefully resolved," Lopez wrote. "We would also like to thank the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance."
