Prosecutors won’t charge woman who says she abandoned newborn in Ballard

Man charged with murdering teen outside of Renton Big 5 makes $2 million bail
Aaron Brown Myers, the man charged with murdering 17-year-old Hazrat Ali Rohani outside of a Renton sporting goods store, has posted the $2 million bond set by the King County Superior Court, records show. Myers, 51, was charged with second-degree murder and second-degree assault following the June 5 confrontation that ended with him allegedly shooting Rohani seven times. Rohani died at the scene. Myers, who is not a law enforcement officer, had tried to apprehend Rohani and his friends after seeing an airsoft gun they were attempting to return to the Renton Big 5 Sporting Goods store on Grady Way. Myers has worked as a security guard, according to court records, but was not on duty at the time of the shooting. The Race for District 3: Leslie Lewallen
We’re headed back to Washington’s 3rd Congressional District – which includes the southwest corner of the state, from Long Beach to Mount Adams, and from Yelm down to Vancouver. It’s expected once again to be the site of one of the closest House races in the country – the Cook political report rates it as one of only 22 “tossup” contests in 2024. Democrat Marie Gluesenkamp Perez flipped the seat in 2022 by a slim margin: she defeated Republican Joe Kent by roughly 2600 votes. Kent is back vying for the seat, along with another Republican challenger:
'Very cruel.' Lost pet owners targeted by scammers posing as Seattle Animal Shelter
Owners of lost pets in the Seattle area are being targeted by scammers, city officials say. The fraudsters are posing as employees of the Seattle Animal Shelter and other animal welfare groups, asking for payment for emergency medical services they claim pets need. But that’s not how it works, said Melissa Mixon, a spokesperson for the city of Seattle. The Seattle Animal Shelter, which is run by the city, doesn’t require people to pay for their pet’s medical care in advance. “We take the care of our animals very seriously and would not ask a distressed pet owner for a deposit for their sick or injured pet,” Mixon said. City officials say they got two calls on Monday from residents warning them about the scammers. Mixon said that other local shelters are also being impersonated.
