MINOT, ND ( KXNET ) — City water might not be everyone’s first choice when it comes to water, but having safe drinkable water always comes first for the City of Minot.

Water professionals at Minot’s Water Treatment Plant go through an extensive process to make sure everyone has safe drinkable water. This includes a purification process to ensure that well water does not contain bacteria.

Minot Public Transit provides accessibility for all

The process begins by adding chlorine to disinfect the water followed by the formation of chloramines, which protects against any residual bacteria. Water professionals say following strict guidelines is how everyone can enjoy drinkable water.

“By following the EPA rules, maintaining a certain disinfectant residual out in the system, and also monitoring for any other contaminants that could end up in well water is how we pace ourselves on treating the water,” said Water Treatment Superintendent Mark Paddock.

The Minot Water Treatment Plant will be testing for lead within the next three years.
