BISMARCK, N.D. — We are in the homestretch of the Northwoods League regular season, and the first year of the Mark Weidemaier era for the Bismarck Larks.

For the Larks manager, this opportunity is all about sharing his knowledge and helping the players develop after spending over 40 years in professional baseball. Weidemaier emphasizes that with the changing landscape of America’s favorite pastime, it’s important to teach his team the right way to play the game.

“I’ve really enjoyed it,” he says. “I mean, it’s a lot of fun. It’s a challenge. Every day’s a little different. I think the opportunity for me to bring some of my wisdom through the years that I’ve learned so far from some great baseball people and pass on next generation is what I really believe it’s all about and that’s the way it needs to be. I’m not sure that that’s the way it is today. It’s not whether it’s old school or new school. It’s the right school. I think there’s a right way to play the game, and I think a lot of the stuff we learn in the old school is the right way to play the game. I think there’s a balance. You can add some of the analytics, but I think it’s gone a little bit to the extreme. With that, I think we’ve lost some of the human element. Hopefully we can bring it back and I can do it here.”
