New burn restrictions in Stark County are set to last until the end of the year

DICKINSON, ND ( KXNET ) — As fires continue to rage on the west coast, our state isn’t immune to elevated fire risks this summer. And Stark County recently issued an update on burn restrictions in the area.

Fire chiefs are implementing a restriction on controlled burning in the county. This means that if you live in Stark County, you’re unable to light off fireworks, start campfires, or burn garbage, tree branches and cropland as well as drive off-road.

However, you can still use gas grills and pellet smokers as long as you monitor the appliances at all times, and it’s done on a non-combustible surface.

This restriction will be in place from now until the end of the year.

Authorities say the decision was based on several factors, including the safety of responding firefighters as well as protecting the community and civilian property.

Fire chiefs remind the public that violating this restriction could result in a 30-day jail sentence and a $1,500 fine, along with costs accrued from any damage from a subsequent fire.

If you have any questions about this burn restriction, contact the Stark County Department of Emergency Services at 701-456-7605.
